However, it difficult in most projects to undertake Environmental monitoring as always developers has been avoiding costs and hence bypass this item.

Being a challenge to it, this project complements the most difficult part of which most governmental projects do not comply with regardless the National Environmental Managemen Act, 2004 obligations to undertake EM accordingly.

The project is now at final stage and activities involved include environemental awareness education, planting of trees, planting of grasses, preparing resettlement plan and campaigning for stping people to cultivate upstream of intakes. however, among the challenges Mr. Masige is facing is stopping people from cutting grasses near or around catchment areas since most residents are farmers and cattle rearers and they have been using zero grazing something which neccesitates to need grasses.

However, there are plans which are under preparations which will assist to curb up the situation.

The results will further be published on this site after the project is over.

Ther had been a tendeance of growing green vegetables such as cabbage, onions, tomatoes etc on sloping grounds and in paricular near water catchment areas and near River Banks.

In most cases, the agricultural activities in Tanzania like any country in Africa and the world practice the same phenemenon of cultivating and using the so called “Industrial Chemicals”. More thatn that, the use of pesticides like Thiodan, Blue Copper, DDT and the like are obviously have impacts not only to pets and other useful microogranisms, but also they kill all ther vertebrates and affects human lives.

It is of no doubt that in may western countries like America have abondoned the use of DDT for instance from the early 1972. The reason behind was the killings of ecosystem in Apparachian mountains. As if that is not important, the cretical point is that such chemicals affect both human being, pests and other living organisms. After that, the supprising side is that from the last year, the Tanzanian government started using DDT spray to homes as alternative solution to cure MALARIA. Here the issue comes that, if the chemical was and has been abandoned in such western countries, then WHY should we use it in crops eaten back by human being and more than that, spray in homes where human being of low income and who starves for daily survival dwel??

One might compare the quality of houses being sprayed are of low quality or High quality?

On the other hand, when such chimicals mentioned above flows into water streams, rivers, or lakes, they are consumed back by human being and as a result affect the man himself. In this regards, more education is needed to ur people on the alternative use of cultivating agriculture products free from chemical use and relie in natural treatment of these pests as it was in old age before colonialism.

So far, the problem escalates when there is no quick solution to avert the water quality supplied to people and especially when such people is of low income and the project fund becomes limited.

A typical example is the water supply drawn from the Kikelelwa and Matara and  intakes at Mkuu-Rombo, Kilimanjaro.

The flow seems to flow from high level/rise and comes from a long source with a lot of silts. The existing intake is at low level and hence the silt and other waste matters flow in and the water goes to the storage tank without treatment. A scientific way of treating such water is an application or installation of sedmentation and Filtration tanks and can be more thatn that depending with the quanlity of water, location, avaiable funds, management, law enforcement for those who violet such as cultivating at water sources and erodes that embankments.
